Monte Cristo

My boyfriend loves these sandwiches but it’s almost impossible to find a good one outside of Disneyland. So now we make them ourselves.

Ingredients:

Swiss cheese

Sliced ham

Sliced turkey

Sliced white bread (Choose ones with a lot of surface area.)

1 cup flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 egg

3/4 cup milk

1/4 tsp salt

2 tbsp sugar

Raspberry jam

Powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Cut the crust off the bread.

  2. Make a double-decker sando (sandwich) with the cheese, ham, and turkey. Be generous with it.

  3. Mix the flour, powder, salt, and sugar.

  4. Mix the milk and egg.

  5. Add the wets to the drys.

  6. Dip the sandos in the batter. You can stab toothpicks through the corners of the sandos to keep them from falling apart.

  7. Heat a pan full of oil deep enough to submerge at least half of the sando. Heat the oil to about 300F.

  8. Fry those sandos! Flip after the bottom is golden brown.

  9. Drain on paper towels.

  10. Top with powdered sugar and dip into jam to serve.
